Your Child’s Vaccination Appointment: What to Expect

Key Information

  • Before you arrive: Please remember to bring your child’s red book with you, and dress them in clothes that are easy to take off. A calm parent often helps make for a more relaxed baby.
  • During the appointment: The safest place for your child is on your knee, as they will be most comforted by you. The injection is over in just a few seconds, and a cuddle is the best medicine.
  • Afterwards: It is very normal for the injection site to be a little red or sore, and for some children to be a bit irritable or develop a slight fever. This shows their immune system is responding well. We will provide you with all the aftercare advice you need before you leave.

What Happens Next?

By bringing your child for their vaccinations, you are giving them robust, long-lasting protection
against serious diseases like measles, meningitis, and polio. You are also playing a vital part in
protecting our whole community, including other babies who are too young for their jabs.
