Shared care agreements are formal arrangements between a GP and a GMC-registered consultant specialist. This allows a shared responsibility for a patient’s care. This may involve a GP practice prescribing medications or doing physical checks on the advice of a specialist. They should continue to arrange regular reviews for the patient.
In Greater Manchester these shared care agreements within NHS services are set by the Greater Manchester Medicines Management Group (GMMMG), and the Local Medical Committee (LMC) to ensure they prioritize patient safety and care.
Entering into a shared care agreement is at the GP’s discretion. We can enter into a shared care agreement with NHS providers following the GMMMG guidelines.
We can not enter into a shared care agreement with any private health care providers or providers operating under the right to choose scheme.
