Request for Right to Choose / private referral for ADHD Assessment
In Greater Manchester ADHD care is provided by Psychiatry UK and the Jacobs clinic for adults and by CAHMS for children via the neurodiversity pathway.
These services offer an assessment, diagnosis, medication and medical reviews. When a diagnosis is made these services will start medication and when you are stable on these we, as your GP can enter into a shared care agreement. This means you can have your medications prescribed and your health checks done here at the Sides. The specialist service will continue to review you at least once a year and be there to help with any concerns you or we have.
These are the only services we can enter into a shared care agreement with.
Due to waiting times you may wish to be assessed under the right to choose system. We can refer to these services. However, prior to your referral there are some things you need to be aware of.
Whist these services are offered via the NHS and are free for patients, Right to Choose services are often private companies contracted by the NHS
We as your GP cannot choose for you. You need to research the options and make a choice who you would like to see.
We cannot provide shared cared with these companies or do any of this on their behalf as it is not safe.
When selecting a Right to Choose service the following criteria must be met for us to be able to refer you
- Are they a Right to Choose provider?
- Are they registered with the care quality commission?
- Do they initiate and stabilise medication?
- Can they prescribe your medication long term?
- Do they offer physical health checks?
- Do they offer yearly follow up?
- Are they aware we will not offer a shared care agreement with them?
Providers under the right to choose for ADHD are constantly changing. The companies’ websites are usually a good place to find out if they offer the service you need.
Several services are also available on sites such as ADHD UK’s website (https://adhduk.co.uk/right-to-choose)
If the provider, you choose can meet the 6 criteria above please contact us with their details and we can help refer you to them.
